Joey Gase Set For SS Green Light Racing Debut
MOORESVILLE, N.C., January 29, 2010 -- A new chapter for the SS Green Light Racing team will begin Saturday at the New Smyrna Raceway as sixteen year-old Joey Gase steps behind the wheel of the Butch Miler led team’s powerful late model for the first time on Saturday, January 30th in the Pro All Star Series (PASS) Winterfest Super Late Model event at the New Smyrna Raceway in Florida.
Despite his young age, Gase is no stranger to New Smyrna; he finished fifth in the Crate Late Model points at the World Series of Stock Car racing last February.
Miller looks at this weekend’s race an extension of early season testing. “While we go to the track to win every week, this week I’m more concerned about getting to know each other. We plan to run for the ASA Late Model Challenge Championship and that season starts at in New Smyrna in March.”
“My goal this weekend is to learn about each other and work on our communication.” Miller added. “I want to get 150 laps under our belt with Joey. We’re not running for points in this series, so it’s stay clean and be there at the end is what I’m looking for.”
The defending Late Model Champion at Hawkeye Downs Raceway is ready to start a new season. “I just want to make it to the end of the race this weekend, a top-five would be just great. I’m excited to work with Butch and to see what I can learn from him and the team.”
The SS Green Light Late Model team has proven to be one of the strongest in the country over the last several seasons accumulating twelve victories including six last season while winning the ASA Late Models South division title and finishing second in the ASA Challenge Series point’s championship.
Under the guidance of three-time ASA National Champion Miller, Gase will run an A-B-C style multi-series schedule in 2010 including races in the Pro All Star Series, the ASA Challenge Series and the team will enter Joey in two K & N Pro Series East races later in the season.
