SS Green Light Racing Storms to Windy City
Homecoming for Crew Chief Bobby Dotter at Chicagoland Speedway
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series heads to the windy city for the series’ inaugural EnjoyIllinois 225 at Chicagoland Speedway. The race will mark a homecoming for Bobby Dotter who grew up racing on the short-tracks of the Chicago area before moving into the NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series in the late eighties.
Even though this is the inaugural race at the Chicagoland Speedway, racing in the Chicago area is not new for the trucks, which ran at Chicago Motor Speedway in Cicero, Ill during 2000 and 2001. Dotter finished thirteenth in the Sears Craftsman 175 at the now defunct speedway back in 2001. “I’m looking forward to coming back home to the Chicago area. I’ve had some great memories racing around the Midwest and I’m looking forward to seeing some old friends and faces,” he said. “I’m very happy that we are finally bringing the trucks to this great facility.”
McCumbee is also pleased that the series is running at the mile and a half track just south of the second city. Over his NCWTS career, twelve of his fourteen top-ten finishes have come on tracks from one to two miles in length including four this year. “I’m ready to go right now,” the excited driver said. “Last week I thought we were poised to get a top-ten at Bristol and then with less than forty to go we have some bad luck that dropped us out of contention. I think a trip to Chicago is just what we need to get back up front.”
The SS Green Light team is bringing a new Chevy Silverado that was recently purchased from TRG and McCumbee has very high hopes for the competitiveness of the truck at Chicagoland. “We lost our primary speedway truck at Michigan a few races back. When you bring a new truck to a track for the first time you never are really sure of what you have until you get on track, but I feel this truck should be very competitive and I can’t wait to get to the track for practice on Thursday.”
“The guys in the SS Green Light shop have done a great job,” Dotter explained. “It’s been a tough year with the economy, which makes it even harder for the guys in the shop who put in long hours to get us to the track each week. We’ve been bitten by some bad luck over the last couple races with Chad. I feel we’re ready to put all that behind us.”
ASI Limited/Spectrum Metal Finishing/Akzo Nobel will again adorn McCumbee’s Chevy Silverado for the EnjoyIllinois 225. The companies will have numerous guests at the track for Friday’s events. “We are very lucky to have some great partners to help us do what we do for a living,” said Dotter. “ASI Limited along with Akzo Nobel and Spectrum Metal Finishing have been supporters of the SS Green Light team for several years and I’m looking forward to running up front with them this week.”
• This will be the Chad’s 85th NCWTS start and 93rd career NASCAR start.
• Chad has one top-five and four top-tens in thirteen starts so far this season.
• Chad has one start in the ARCA/Remax Series at Chicagoland Speedway.
• The EnjoyIllinois 225 marks the 212th consecutive start in the NCWTS for SS Green Light Racing.
Chad’s thoughts on the Chicagoland Speedway and the EnjoyIllinois 225: “I’ve run quite a few laps testing in the past at Chicago. It’s similar to Kansas and some of the other mile and a half tracks that we have had some of our best success at. Being the first race here should make for a level playing field and that will give us an opportunity to get the No.07 ASI Limited Chevy upfront and contend for the win.”
Forty drivers are on the preliminary entry list for the EnjoyIllinois 225, which will be shown live on SPEED TV at 8:30 eastern on August 28th. It will also be broadcast live via radio worldwide on the Motor Racing Network (MRN) and on SIRIUS Satellite Radio NASCAR channel 128.
Friday night’s EnjoyIllinois.com 225 marks the first of two new tracks added to the schedule this year. The NCWTS will head to Iowa Speedway for the inaugural race at that facility next week.
